New Delhi Sept 17: As many as 58 citizen-centric services, such as the driving license, registration of vehicles as well as transfer of ownership can be obtained online with Aadhaar authentication on a voluntary basis.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on September 17 announced that offering the services in a secure and anonymous manner will greatly assist in reducing the time spent by citizens and ease their burden of compliance.
Therefore, the number of people who visit the regional transportation offices (RTOs) will likely to decrease significantly and lead to improved effectiveness in their operation.
The online services for which a citizen is required to undergo Aadhaar authentication on voluntary basis include–application for Learner License, issue of duplicate Driving License and renewal of Driving License for which test of competence to drive is not required.
In addition, the issue of International Driving Permit, change of address on Conductor License Application, Transfer of Ownership of Motor Vehicle and many more are included in the list of online services that the citizen must be undergoing Aadhaar authentication on a voluntary basis.
In accordance with the notice that was issued in the department on 16 September, anyone who is not a holder of an Aadhaar number can avail this service on a physical basis in order to establish the authenticity of their identity by submitting a substitute document physically to the respective Authority in accordance with CMVR 1989.
