Hot, humid weather to continue as night temperatures rise in J&K

Officials have reported an increase in the minimum temperature in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, amidst forecasts of hot and humid weather.

According to a meteorological department official, the weather is expected to remain mainly clear, hot, and humid until July 4. However, there might be a brief period of showers in some areas during the late afternoon and evening.

From the evening of July 5 to July 7, intermittent light to moderate rain is expected in many places across Jammu and Kashmir.

Regarding today’s minimum temperature, the official stated that Srinagar recorded a low of 19.0°C, which is higher than the previous night’s temperature of 18.3°C. This temperature is 1.9°C above the normal average for the summer capital.

In Qazigund, the gateway town of the Kashmir Valley, the minimum temperature was 17.0°C, compared to 16.4°C the previous night. This temperature was 1.5°C above the normal average.

Pahalgam, the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, recorded a minimum temperature of 11.5°C, higher than the previous night’s 10.2°C. This temperature was 0.7°C above the normal average.

In Kupwara town, the minimum temperature settled at 16.7°C, compared to 15.5°C the previous night. This temperature was 1.2°C above the normal average for the north Kashmir area.

Kokernag recorded a minimum temperature of 16.7°C, slightly higher than the previous night’s 16.1°C. This temperature was 1.8°C above the normal average for the area.

Gulmarg, the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, recorded a minimum temperature of 13.4°C, higher than the previous night’s 11.2°C. This temperature was 2.5°C above the normal average.

Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of 28.1°C, compared to 26.8°C the previous night. This temperature was 2.5°C above the normal average.

Other places also experienced higher than normal minimum temperatures, including Banihal with 19.1°C (2.8°C above normal), Batote with 20.2°C (2.7°C above normal), Katra with 24.2°C (2.2°C above normal), and Bhaderwah with 19.5°C (3.5°C above normal). In Ladakh, Leh recorded a minimum temperature of 9.8°C, while Kargil recorded 13.3°C, according to the official.
