JK Govt orders horizontal 10% reservation for ex-Agniveers in police

Srinagar: The government has announced a horizontal reservation in the amount of 10% of all vacant positions for direct recruitment for the post of Constable in the Jammu and Kashmir Police for ex-agniveers.

Additionally, the government has announced the relaxation of three years on the upper age limits for ex-agniveers who are directly recruited for the position of Constable within Jammu and Kashmir

“In the exercise of the powers granted by subsection (3) in section 43 of the Police Act, 1983, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has directed that, following the Rule 172-A in the Jammu and Kashmir Police Rules 1960. The following rules will be added as rule 172-B. That is, J 72-B. Reservation of vacancies for ex-agniveers,” news agency GNS reported a government directive as declaring.

“There shall be a horizontal reservation to the extent of 10% of the available vacancies in direct recruitment at the level of Constable in Jammu and Kashmir Police for Ex-Agniveers, who have completed their term of engagement,” the statement said and added, “The reservation so earmarked shall be in addition to the reservation provided to Ex-Servicemen that already exists in Jammu and Kashmir Police and shall not be carried forward to the subsequent year, in case eligible candidates are not available.”

In a separate order the government also ordered an increase in the upper age limit for former Agniveers.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by third proviso to sub-rule (1) of rule 176 of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Rules, I960, the Government hereby directs that there shall be a relaxation of three years in upper age limit for Ex-Agniveers in direct recruitment for the post of Constable in Jammu and Kashmir.”
