JKPSC has invited Applications through online mode from applicants who are domiciled in UT of Jammu and Kashmir for appearing in J&K Combined Competitive Preliminary Examination 2021.

JKPSC has notified in its recent notification Notification No. 02-PSC (DR-P) 2021 Dated 26-02-2021 that the syllabus pattern for the Examination will be same as of 2018.

1) PRELIMS SYLLABUS 2021

The JKPSC KAS Prelims is an objective type exam. JKPSC KAS prelims is the screening exam only, and the marks secured in the prelims exam are not considered for the final merit. The candidate needs to qualify in the KAS prelims exam to get selected for the main exam.

The KAS prelims exam pattern is as follows:-

  • General Studies Paper- I Marks:- 200 | Questions:- 100
  • General Studies Paper-II (Aptitude Test) | Marks:- 200 | Questions:- 100

The JKPSC KAS prelims Syllabus, as defined in the official rule SRO 103 of 2018, is as follows:-

General Studies Paper I (200 Marks)

  • Current events of National and International importance
  • History of India and Indian National Movement
  • Indian and World Geography–Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the world
  • Indian Polity and Governance–Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues etc
  • Economic and Social Development–Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives etc
  • General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change–that do not require subject specialization
  • General Science

Note: Questions pertaining to the state of Jammu & Kashmir may also be asked in this paper.

General Studies Paper-II (200 Marks)

  • Comprehension
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills
  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  • Decision-making and problem-solving
  • General mental ability
  • Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc.–Class X level)
  • Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc.–Class X level)

Note:- Paper-II of the Combined Competitive (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.

It is mandatory for the candidate to appear in both the Papers of Combined Competitive (Preliminary) Examination for the purpose of evaluation. Therefore, a candidate will be disqualified in case he/she does not appear in both the papers of Combined Competitive (Preliminary) Examination.

2) JKPSC KAS Mains Syllabus 2021

The marks secured in the KAS main exam are counted for the final merit list. The KAS main exam syllabus is very similar to the IAS main syllabus.

The KAS notification mentions that “The Main Examination is intended to assess the overall intellectual traits and depth of understanding of candidates rather than merely the range of their information and memory”.

There will be eight descriptive type papers in the JKPSC KAS main exam.

  • English Paper (Qualifying) | Marks:- 300
  • Essay Marks:- | 250
  • General Studies Paper I (Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society.) | Marks:- 250
  • General Studies Paper II (Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations.) | Marks:- 250
  • General Studies Paper III (Technology, Economic Development, Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management.) | Marks:- 250
  • General Studies Paper IV ( Ethics, Integrity & Aptitude)| Marks:- 250
  • Optional Paper I | Marks:- 250
  • Optional Paper II Marks:- 250
