
On Saturday, Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta emphasized the need for increased resources at all work sites of the Srinagar Smart City Ltd (SSCL), including the District and Divisional Administration, in order to ensure the timely completion of all identified projects by the middle of this month.
The meeting was attended by several key officials, including the Principal Secretary of the Power Development Department (PDD), Principal Secretary of the Public Works Department (PWD), Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Secretary of Tourism, Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, Commissioner of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Vice-Chairperson of the Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LCMA), Chief Engineers of the PWD and Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), along with other relevant officers.
Dr. Mehta, while reviewing the progress of the projects under SSCL, urged the executing agencies to make efficient use of time and continue working in double shifts to ensure successful completion of the projects within the specified timeframe.
He advised officials to closely monitor weather reports for the upcoming week and provide necessary facilities to laborers working on the sites so that they can work even during adverse weather conditions.
The Chief Secretary stressed the importance of round-the-clock monitoring of the projects to ensure quality work and timely completion. He also instructed the agencies to remove debris from completed sites for the convenience of the public and prepare for their inauguration as soon as possible.
During a detailed review of the ongoing works, the Chief Secretary specifically mentioned projects at Rambagh, Flood Spill Channel, Lalla Ded Crossing, Riverfront development, Cycle track construction, walkways improvement, Polo View, Gupkar Precinct, Ram Munshibagh Park, Development of Gupkar Road, as well as works at Nishat and the route to SKICC. He directed them to complete all these works before the 15th of this month. He also inquired about the progress of works to be undertaken at TRC and the Parimpora market.
The Chief Secretary instructed the concerned authorities to ensure that all fountains, including the new ones, are fully functional in the Dal Lake. He also urged them to illuminate the street lights along the Dal shoreline and ensure that all installed light clusters are operational, as this area is frequently visited by tourists.
Furthermore, he requested the Vice-Chairperson of the LCMA to initiate water sports activities at Dal Lake and install a jetty within the lake. He also emphasized the importance of completing designated works at ‘Char Chinar’ and ‘Panch Chinar’ to make them attractive for visitors, thereby creating more opportunities for Shikara wallas and other traders in those areas.
The Chief Secretary received updates that the progress of all works is satisfactory, with most of them expected to be completed by the 15th of this month. It was also mentioned that approximately 125 projects are underway under the Smart City Mission in Srinagar. The SSCL has utilized over 92% of the released funds amounting to Rs 321.40 crore, and upon receiving the next installment of funds from the Union Territory, the corporation will receive additional funds from the Central Government to undertake more projects under the mission, enhancing the infrastructure and opportunities in the summer capital of the Union Territory.
