One dead body retrieved from Ramban tunnel, amid rescue operation

Ramban: The rescue team recovered the body of a man from the Ramban tunnel, while the search for other missing persons continues.

An under-construction tunnel at Khoni Nallah on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Ramban district collapsed on Thursday night during an audit & at least 10 persons got buried in the debris, while 4 persons were rescued so far.

The SSP Ramban Mohita Sharma confirmed to the news agency—KNO about the recovery of one body.

“One body was recovered today by the rescue team from debris after an hours-long joint rescue operation launched immediately by police and the Army”, the official said.

Several machines and vehicles parked on the front side of the tunnel suffered damage.

The Deputy Commissioner of Ramban, DIG Dr. Sunil Gupta, SSP Mohita Sharma and Senior NHAI officers have been supervising the rescue operation since midnight.

Div Com Jammu Ramesh Kumar and ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh have also visited the spot.
