In a recent development, two individuals have been apprehended by the authorities for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping and sexual assault of two minor girls. The accused have been identified as Hilal Rather (24), son of Ghulam Mohammad Rather, a resident of Haygam in Sopore, and Shabir Mir (30), son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir, hailing from Kreeri in Baramulla.

The incident came to light when the two girls, aged 12 and 13, were successfully rescued by the police. The authorities promptly filed an FIR (First Information Report) with the Lal bazar Police Station, under sections 363 and 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 3 and 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The FIR has been registered under the case number 41/2023.
