UPSC CDS 2024 Notification: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has issued the notification for the Combined Defence Services Examination (I) 2024, inviting online applications for UPSC CDS (I)/2024, which also includes the SSC Women (Non-Technical) Course. Interested and eligible candidates can submit their applications online through the official website upsc.gov.in, starting from December 20, 2023.

The candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfill all the eligibility conditions for admission to the Examination. Their admission at all the stages of the examination will be purely provisional subject to satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions.

UPSC CDS 2024 Notification

The Combined Defence Services (CDS) is a national-level competitive examination for individuals aspiring to pursue a career in the Armed Forces – Army, Navy, and Air Force. Successful candidates from the CDS written exam will undergo training at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), Air Force Academy (AFA), and Officers Training Academy (OTA). Upon completion of training, candidates are commissioned as lieutenants in the respective branches of the Armed Forces.

Eligibility Criteria for UPSC CDS (I) 2024

CDS 2024 Eligibility is prescribed by the UPSC in terms of nationality, age, educational qualification & physical standards. Candidates preparing for CDS 1 2024 need to fulfill the CDS 1 2024 eligibility criteria in order to be eligible for the exam.

Nationality

To be eligible for the CDS Exam 2024, candidates must fulfill the given criteria:

(i) A citizen of India, or
(ii) A subject of Bhutan, or
(iii) A subject of Nepal, or
(iv) A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
(v) A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and East African Countries (Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or Vietnam) with the intention of permanently settling in India

Provided candidates belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv), and (v) should be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Indian government.

A certificate of eligibility is also necessary for Gorkha candidates in Nepal.

CDS Qualification 2024

Important Points:

  • Graduates with the first choice as Army/Navy/Air Force are required to submit provisional certificates of graduation on the date of commencement of the SSB Interview at SSB centres.
  • Those who are in their final year of graduation can also apply

UPSC CDS (1) 2024 How to Apply

Follow these Steps to Apply Online for UPSC CDS 1 2024:

  • Go to the official website for application- upsconline.nic.in.
  • Log in to your registered account or register for the OTR.
  • Click on the CDS exam link.
  • Fill out the details asked.
  • Upload the photograph, signature, and Photo Identity card.
  • Make the application fee for the CDS exam.
  • Choose the CDS exam centre.
  • Finally, submit the application form.
  • A confirmation message will be sent to the candidate’s registered mobile number and email id.

UPSC CDS 1 2024 Registration Form

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) released the CDS 1 application form on December 20, 2023. The last date to apply for the CDS 1 exam is January 9, 2024, whereas, CDS 2 application form 2024 will be released on May 15, 2024. The last date to apply for CDS 2 2024 is June 4, 2024.

UPSC CDS 1 2024 Application Fee

Candidates (excepting Female/SC/ST candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay a fee of Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred Only) either by remitting the money in any Branch of SBI by cash, or by using Visa/Master/Rupay Credit/Debit Card/UPI Payment or by using internet banking facility of any Bank.

UPSC CDS 1 2024 Selection Process

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) prescribes the CDS selection process to select eligible candidates as Commissioned Officers in the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. The CDS selection process comprises two stages: a written exam and an SSB interview. All candidates who qualify for the written exam are required to register themselves online on the Indian Army Recruiting website – joinindianarmy.nic.in within two weeks of the announcement of the written test result. After that, candidates are allotted SSB dates and centres.

Selection is done based on the written exam and SSB Interview.

  • SSB Interview is a two-stage process
  • Candidates need to secure CDS cut-off marks to qualify for each stage of selection
  • Candidates are assigned All India Ranks based on their merit
  • The allotment is done on merit-cum-preference basis

Exam Pattern of UPSC CDS 1 2024

CDS exam pattern 2024 is divided into a written exam and SSB Interview. The written exam for IMA, INA, and AFA comprises three sections: English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics. The test paper for admission to OTA comprises two sections: English and General Knowledge. Each section is held for two hours. The total marks of the test for IMA, INA, and AFA are 300, while it is 200 for OTA. The SSB Interview for IMA, INA, and AFA carries 300 marks each while it is 200 marks for OTA. The SSB Interview procedure consists of two stages: I and II. Stage I of the SSB Interview comprises Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception Description Test (PP&DT) and Interviews, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests, and Conferences.
