The weather department has issued a forecast for the next few days in Jammu and Kashmir, indicating widespread moderate rain and thunderstorms in the Kashmir division over the next 24 hours.
The Jammu division may experience light rain and thunderstorms at scattered places during the same period.
Following this, the region can expect fairly widespread light to moderate rain and thunderstorms for the subsequent two days.
According to a meteorological department official, the rain and thunderstorms are expected to commence from late afternoon and evening, affecting various areas such as Kashmir, Zojila-Drass, and the Jammu region by night. The period from May 7-8 is predicted to bring rain and thunderstorms to many places in Jammu and Kashmir, with the possibility of hailstorms and gusty winds at scattered locations.
However, from May 9-12, mainly dry weather is expected throughout the region. The official advises farmers to postpone orchard spraying and crop harvesting until May 8th due to the anticipated weather conditions.
In addition, the official urges tourists to be prepared for colder weather until May 8th, recommending that they carry warm clothes and food supplies.
Regarding temperatures, Srinagar recorded a low of 10.4°C, slightly above the normal temperature for the summer capital. Qazigund registered a low of 8.0°C, slightly below normal, while Pahalgam recorded a low of 5.4°C, slightly above normal. Kokernag and Gulmarg also experienced temperatures below normal for their respective locations.
Jammu recorded a low of 19.7°C, below normal for the winter capital of J&K. Banihal, Batote, Katra, Bhaderwah, and Leh in Ladakh also reported temperatures below normal.
